Microsoft Visual Studio 2022: Running for the First Time

Note: If you have never used Visual Studio before on your computer, then this page is for you. If you've already opened and configured Visual Studio, make sure that you have registered your copy of the program

  1. When you launch Visual Studio for the first time, the program will welcome you, encouraging you to sign into your Microsoft account. You don’t need to sign in to an account to use the program - just hit "Not now, maybe later"

  2. Choose your development setting and theme:

    • Development settings: this controls the default language for new projects. Choose the language specific to your course, or leave this option as General if you'd like to program in multiple languages.
    • Theme: Blue, Dark, or Light. Pick one. You can always change it later.

  3. Hit the Start Visual Studio button to finish.
