Microsoft Project 2021: Download & Install

All Thomas College students, staff, and faculty can download Microsoft Project Professional 2021 (and other Microsoft software) for free from Azure Dev Tools for Teaching.

  1. Go to the Azure Dev Tools for Teaching page.

  2. Hit the blue Sign In button on the far right:

  3. Sign in to Azure using your Thomas email and password.

    NOTE: Azure may ask you to verify your student status. Follow the on-screen instructions to do so.

  5. You are now logged in, and Azure's Education Hub appears. Follow the Software link in the Education Hub navigation menu:

  6. Azure displays a list of all available software. In the Search box above the software list, type project to display just Project-related software:

  7. Choose Project Professional 2021. The Software panel appears on the right:

    • Hit the View Key button. Copy the Product Key to a safe place! You need to enter this key into Project Professional register your copy of Project to use the program beyond the 30-day trial period.

    • Hit the Download button to download the Project Professional ISO file (4.2 GB).

  8. IMPORTANT: Before you can install Project, you need to open (i.e. mount) the ISO file you downloaded from Azure. Windows 10 & 11 let you open ISO files without having to burn them to DVDs.

    • Right-click on the ISO file and choose Mount.
    • If you don't see a Mount option, it means another program (e.g., WinRAR) is your default program for opening ISO files. Open the file using that program, then follow the directions to extract the ISO file's contents.
  9. After extracting the ISO file, run the setup.exe program as Administrator to begin the installation:

    TIP: If the installer quits abruptly or doesn't respond, right-click on setup.exe and choose Troubleshoot Compatibility. Follow the wizard, and Windows will choose an installation mode that works best with the Project installer.
